Handle with Care
When a haircut feels like too much.
For many children, the sensory experience of a haircut — the sounds of scissors and clippers, the feeling of hair falling, the unfamiliar smells, the need to sit still — can feel completely overwhelming. If your child has cried, refused, or struggled through haircuts before, you are not alone, and it is not a failure.
I created the Handle with Care service specifically for these children. With a background in both hairdressing and counselling, and specialist knowledge in sensory processing, I work with children at their own pace — building trust, reducing anxiety, and making the experience as comfortable as possible.
There is no rush here. We go at your child's pace, every time.
Who This Is For
Every child is welcome here.
Sensory Processing Differences
Children who find touch, sound, smell, or visual stimulation overwhelming. We work to reduce sensory triggers and create a predictable, calm environment.
Anxiety & Fear
Children who have developed fear or anxiety around haircuts — whether from a past difficult experience or general anxiety. We move slowly and never push.
Autism & Neurodivergence
Children who are autistic, have ADHD, or are otherwise neurodivergent. I understand that the salon environment can be a lot — and I know how to adapt.
Children Who Need More Time
Some children simply need more time, more preparation, and more patience. Handle with Care appointments are longer and unhurried by design.
What to Expect
Your child leads. We follow.
Before your appointment, I'll ask about your child's specific needs, triggers, and what has or hasn't worked before. This helps me prepare the space and approach in a way that gives us the best chance of a positive experience.
On the day, there is no pressure to sit in the chair straight away. We can take time to explore the space, meet the tools, and get comfortable. If we only manage a small amount — that's a win.
Parents and carers are always welcome to stay, participate, or step back — whatever helps your child feel most at ease.
Monthly Event
Sensory Sunday
Last Sunday of every month · 1pm – 5pm
Sensory Sunday is a dedicated afternoon exclusively for Handle with Care children's bookings. The salon is quieter, the pace is slower, and every appointment is given the time and space it deserves. A familiar, predictable routine — on the same day each month — can make a real difference for children who benefit from consistency.
